Design Statement

Apartment 208 was a project given that focused on making a paper model based on a randomly assigned quote. The quote I was assigned was “I hope one of these paintings has some value.” My interpretation of this quote took form in creating a futuristic world where art is no longer valued by technique or effort but rather by the speed and frequency it can be produced by. This design serves as a commentary on the usage of AI as it begins to make its way into the creative fields that typically call for human connection and appreciation such as painting and fine arts. The apartment belongs to a struggling artist who has devoted their life to the arts only to find that their timing was off. Their talents no longer truly appreciated and their art struggling to be valued. Walls scattered with art, floors covered in paint, devotion becomes obsession and that obsession remains unrewarded.
